The Sinhalese patisthanya is a polearm not often encountered, especially with a haft in this near excellent condition. This one is huge at 7ft.8in. with a head that is 15in. overall, with an 8.5in....

Often the straight swords I have seen from this region with the same type hilts, do not have a scabbard with a flared tip, even though so much else about the scabbard is the same.

According to our friends on the Borneo Forum this is a parang bedak and originates in southern Borneo. Apparently it is a rather rare sword in the Borneo arsenal.

Can you please clarify the use of "parang" vs. "pedang". Previously I had thought two terms to be fairly generic terms for sword. Indonesians I have spoken to about the terms had laid them...
