The hilt are most often brass, copper and zinc sometime a combination of all three layered at the pommel. You would do no harm cleaning the hilt. Getting blade out and not damaging the scabbard...

Smile Seme to clean up.

Another rare dip into the knife game. Should clean up nicely. Some of these before the machete blade versions will be approaching antique. 61 cm total length so not a big one.
