The older baca baca were forged from steel and were of a high quality compared with some of the later ones that were made from strips of copper or silver or base metal.

Hello Lew,

I don't think the clamps can be dated from their construction per se: Both styles seem to have been in use for quite a long time (apparently with regional preferences). Stronger/solid, well-made examples regardless of construction are a good sign (of craftmanship), of course.

IMHO this nice Maranao blade is from the 19th century. Thanks for letting me play with it, Flavio! ;)

Regards,
Kai

You're welcome Kai and thank you again for your kindness :) ;)

Flavio, that's a beautiful kris. Nice composition with the wire wrapped hilt.
Kris' with a diminutive kakatua are usually older. I agree with Kai with this being late 19th cent.
Good catch. Let me know if you get tired of looking at it. :D

Thank you Kino, I also love the wire on the hilt and I'm very proud that such great collectors of moro pieces like you and Kai love this kris :p ! I have to thank Jose for this nice piece!! :) ;) :D
