What goes with ebay?

Greetings gentlemen.

Can anyone tell me what is going on with ebay?
Twice this week I have wished to bid on items from the UK, and each time all I could get when I tried to confirm my bid was "page not responding"

I am a little miffed!

Thank you to anyone who can explain the dark workings of this beast!!

Best wishes,

Richard.

My bid thru e-snipe was rejected too.

Hi Richard,
E-bay U.K., as of the 10th of this month, will no longer be listing for sale any edged weapons e.g. swords, daggers, kitchen knives etc., the only thing they will allow is 'cutlery'. As of this moment in order to be able to bid on any of the ongoing auctions you require, at least in the U.K., to have a credit card registered with them as proof that the bidder is 18 years or over. I suspect that your problems are directly related to this E-bay policy.
My Regards,
Norman.

Norman,

I am in Canada, and was attempting to bid on items for sale in the Uk, but placed on ebay.com
Any further help would be most gratefully accepted.

I'm narked!

Richard.

Hi Richard,
Not sure what the problem is here. One of the regular edged weapons sellers has openly stated on his auctions that after the 10th he will be placing his items on E-bay U.S. but obviously dispatching from the U.K. If you want I can P.M. you his E-bay name and you can get in touch with him and see if he knows any more than I.
My Regards,
Norman.

Thanks Norman,
I read my PM first ,so please disregard the reply I made, as I got hold of wrong end of the stick, so to speak!

Best wishes,

Richard.

Hi Richard,
Apologies about the confusion, hope things are clear now.
My Regards,
Norman.

LOL, thats Pat! (I take it you mean d-f) I'm waiting to see how eBay responds to his obvious attempt to circumvent the latest silly rules.
I'm expecting a 30 day ban for him.

It's all as clear as mud.
I was attempting to bid on an item in the uk, but offered for sale on ebay.com and my bid wouldn't go through, so it appears that wherever a seller tries to sell his goods, if they are located in the UK were both screwed.

Does anyone know how to get bids accepted? ....
I can't get past the "page not responding " bit.

If ALL sellers and buyers of blades stopped using Ebay, then they (Ebay) would soon (hopefully) feel the financial pinch in these tight times. Plenty of bad press from sites such as this will hopefully be noticed, and read by "Big Brother", not that you would expect anything to come out of it. Arrogance is a strange thing!
Best policy in my humble opinion is to use this Forum instead, and if not a member, then join!
I have for some time stopped using Ebay for trading, as the site has become very much less user friendly, particularly for non US residents , and also their fees are in my opinion exorbitant.
The UK have for some years been very heavy handed with laws relating to weapons, and the way that firearms have been regulated is a good example of this. Now its the turn of blades, but those of us who live in (so far) free countries, can only hope that our own Governments are not as short sighted!

Hi Chaps, you will also find ebay UK security policy to link accounts to computers also mean bidsnipe, etc. often no longer work.

Basicaly they are stopping automated sniping. Sadly They really just prefer you to bid early. I wonder why.

Hi, friends.

I am an happy winner of a ban of 4 weeks by EBAY-France. I attempt to sale a very dangerous weapon of last generation: a small kukri whose blade is under 11".

The problem of Richard seems different. I understand that he cannot bid (from Canada) on a blade whose seller is on Ebay-UK.

I had the same problem with another category of product (Lancôme creams for my wife). I used to buy them on Ebay-USA. Since Ebay lost an european proces against Lancôme, impossible to bid on US-Ebay. I see the products, i cannot order.

Ebay is now going to became a real monomole. I remember very well what can happen to a monopole. I was IBM'er...

Stuart,

You live in one of the best spots!
I had a dekko at one of your Kiwi brand buy and sell sights.
First up was a dirty great cannon, and a bit down the page a Lee Enfield action.
Now wouldn't ebay be having kittens over that?!

Your country seems to be one where ignoring the daft sods has paid off.
Don't let it get away.

R.
PS, how much are farms down there? :-)

True!!!!.....and it goes much further than that!. With the right bit of paper and the required security, one can still own a fully operational machine gun (amongst other things).
PM me if you want info on farms. Not sure what type you are looking for.
