Filipino Sword with a European Handguard
5 Attachment(s)
Picked up this Filipino sword with a European sword handguard. When I first looked at it I thought the blade might have been Euro as well. Upon looking closely and deciding to polish and etch I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Have a look.
According to Jeff D at the Euro. Armoury Forums the handguard is Prussian, The Monogram is Kaiser Wilhelm II (1888-1918). Pardon the green tint on the photos, reflection's from the X'mas decor. |
A Prussian Parang??? :D Very interesting. I wonder if this was made for native use using a recovered guard or a sword that was modified for someone to take back home? I really like these bat head hilts. Great sword and if you get tired of it you already know where to send it.
Robert P.S. Could you please post measurements? |
Well I'm green with envy.......what a nice puppy and great find. Looks like silver mounts. The brass crossguard is fascinating. I forget - is it from Batangas? Love the blade too.....

Hi Jose,
Here is a link to a previous thread on this style of sword and hilt http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ht=head+parang It seems that there are a few variations of these and I'm not sure if it was ever decided exactly where they are from but Batangas was mentioned as a possibility. I know that there were more discussions on these but haven't found the links yet. Robert |
