Dagger from Finland??

3 Attachment(s)
Greetings!

Could anyone help identify this dagger? On the leather scabbard this word is engraved: Tnari

On the knife blade, there is an engraving of two reidneer and a signature and several words - very difficult to decipher. Looks like:
Tisckkie Serenpaa

Also says Finland.

Thank you so much!

You have a 'PUUKO' a traditional knife from Finland. If you search in Google you will find many different forms.

Hope this helps

Freddy ;)

Sorry, but it's not a puukko, it is a leuku - broad bladed knife (puukko are
smaller, narrow bladed). Yes, Finnish made by Iisakki Jarvenpaa of Kauhava
Finland. You can see the difference on the site linked below.

Here's a link to a good source of them.

Check out the rest of Ragweed's site. Lots of really good Scandinavian
and Finnish knives. Once you start using good Finnish or Scandi blades, you'll never use any other.

That will teach me NOT to stick with African stuff.

Thanks for the lesson Rich . :p :)

You got more right about this knife than I ever would about anything African :-)
I bet you use/carry a Scandi or Finnish knife though.

No, I always have a French knife in my pocket : an OPINEL. The best there is (in my humble opinion)

I've had several opinel, fine knives, but I've found them a bit fat and bulky
for carry. Mostly around the homestead, I carry either an old rebuilt Broderna Jonsson or a customized Jarvenpaa puukko. For pants pocket carry you might
want to look at the Eka folders. Inexpensive, good steel, take/hold a good edge and slimmer than the opinels.

I assume there is a source for them in Europe.

I prefer my Laguiole. One with a cork screw so it is not too macho and flick knife looking.
