Chinese sword: real or bazaar?
|
hmmm, interesting, but too knackered to tell. Worth a low bid, but I wouldn 't pay much as some of the recent stuff I've seen coming out of China has been really good! Nice weapon though, wonder why he ended it early?
Be nice to see it cleaned up a bit! Perhaps someoen got a real bargain in an 'off site' deal? |
Too much active fresh rust water damage to the scabbard looks recent. Habaki looks like crap with bad engraving job. In other words JUNK ;)

I agree the tunkou (habaki) is all wrong and very modern looking. The wood at the tip of the scabbard looks more aged than old.
I have seen a few very late pieces that fool me into thinking they are fake when they do have some age, and this one has some things in common with those. Still, usually part of the reason I think the very late things are fake is because they are in such good condition. Josh |
