I bought myself a christmas present...

Santa visited a little early and left this sword. I am very pleased with it. It seems quite old and unmessed around with. It's a shape that Mr. Fischer and Mr. Zirngbil identify as Mondejembo but it has the same decorations as many of the blades they attribute to the Ngala. If anyone out there can enlighten me I would appreciate it. As always I would welcome any thoughts. Oh yeah and MERRY CHRISTMAS (and or whatever traditional celebration you practice).

Nice present (I hope Santa won't forget me :D )
This is a double execution sword from Congo. It can be attributed to the following tribes : NGOMBE, DOKO. There are quite some variations on the same design. This slender form is more a parade or dance knife, than a real weapon. According to Christian Gosseau in the book execution knives and derivatives (Tribal Arms Monographs, vol 1/n°2 - 1997) this type of knife was also used by the Konda and the tribes round lake Leopold II) |
Thanks Freddy, great information as always.
