So what was this? My bid did not even register. I know the junky wooden ball and cylinder were added recently. Persian?

It's a knife! It is in pretty poor condition to boot. I saw it but was completely turned off by how bad a shape it is in.

Have to agree with Lew...poor condition,...blade seems to be middle Eastern/Indo persian ....but the 'hilt' :shrug:

Small restorations are ok but that looks more like a complete overhaul of the hilt and since it is one of the less common indo persian style daggers it will be very hard to redo properly.

It is a middle eastern knife probably from Syria. I have seen this handle type several times before. The material is typically some type of stone, generally of this brownish tone, with wire inlay, globular pommel and so forth. The scabbard material between the mounts gives me a more "tribal" feel. The example I have had plus the several additional pieces I have seen all seemed to be not earlier than turn of century and even up to middle of the 20th century.

It is a type of Ottoman jambiya. Tirri, page 135. I didnt bid because it is very poor condition
