Papuan bone tipped war pick
This is a strange almost harmless looking object one would brush aside as tourist rubbish. I thought just that untill I really started to look, apart from the ease that it can be punched clean through a 4mm sheet of hardboard to half way up the wood haft. The bone tip was at one time attach with an adhesive substance as well as the binding. The bone tip is 9mm long. The whole top piece is 41cm. The handle tip to top a total of 69cm. Stick that in your windpipe and smoke it  .

Tim,
You're on the Papua tour. Quite another direction than Africa. But very nice pieces. Congrats. Certainly this weapon could do severe damage in battle. Is the bone not made of the casuaris bird, like they also use for the asmat daggers? |
