knive identification
 

Hello friends,
I have had this knife with me for 30 years or so, and would like to know something regarding its origins or if someone can identify it in some way.

I'm afraid this is just a plain dagger. Probably made in China, nothing special and as we say here in Holland, thirteen in a dozen. Besides that it's not etnographic.

Well I find the red painted fuller interesting. It is not something you find in the market today, but is seen on antiques. While the knife is certainly not exciting in construction or materials it does show this decorative aspect that I would consider ethnographic and a good link with history.

I SAW QUITE A FEW KNIVES WITH THE PLASTIC DESIGN IN THE HANDLES LIKE YOURS IN THE 1950'S THRU THE 1960'S. THE ONE I HAD WAS A SWITCHBLADE WHICH I CAME BY IN THE BORDER TOWNS NEAR TEXAS. SOME HAD THE ORIENTAL DESIGN AND OTHERS HAD A BULL FIGHTER AND BULL. I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY WERE MADE BUT A LOT OF STUFF CAME OUT OF TAIWAN IN THOSE DAYS SO PERHAPS THEY SHIPPED TO MEXICO AS WELL AS THE USA. SWITCHBLADES WERE OUTLAWED SOMETIME IN THE MID TO LATE 1950'S IN THE USA IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. I DON'T REMEMBER SEEING A HUNTING KNIFE LIKE YOURS BACK THEN BUT IT IS SO SIMULAR TO THE MUCH DESIRED SWITCHBLADES IT PROBABLY CAME FROM THE SAME SOURCE AND TIME PERIOD.

Yep Barry, I remember seeing the same handle motif on knives offered for sale in Nogales Mexico back in the '50's . :)
