what is this?
 
i have just inherited my grandfathers sword. i was just trying to find out about it.
if anyone has any info it will be greatly appreciated.

There are strange symbols near the tip that look oriental?

hi emmaw,

after looking at all the pictures, it looks to me very much like the one in post no. 3 of the thai darb thread

as you said it is 30+ years old, it's an earlier version of the ones available to this day on ebay & other sources & possibly a bit better made than the ones you get now.

It is indeed a contemporary Thai Darb. The first one I ever saw was sent home by my cousin when he was on RR in Thailand during the Viet Nam war.
