I have problems to find any references on this klewang.
Does anyone recognise it or have any ideas of its origin?

Michael,

The cross marks on the back of the blade is something that I know from both Sumatran Klewangs and from an occasional mandau.

So again, the sumatra Borneo mix...

Bets regards,
Willem

Thanks for all comments.

Ben, I am not sure that it's a crowit, couldn't it just as well be a kembang
kacang? On the handle which one in Sumatra do you mean?
Willem, on the cross marks they also are found in other regions, f.i. Sulawesi. But I agree that they are common in Sumatra (nice marks on your example!).
The ferrule, that looks a bit Filipino, is also confusing?
And the "whale-shaped" handle?

Arjan, I recognise some traits on the top klewang in the Spirit of Wood book.
So I have checked with a couple of collectors familiar with Kelantanese klewang but they thought it came from Sumatra or Java. I have a couple of Malaysian klewang and parang but this one doesn't have the same feeling when I compare them with this X-klewang. F.i. with this Kelantanese one that is close to the one in the book (picture below).

Michael
