Japanese Bow

HI all, I was wondering if someone can tell me what if any difference there is between sports Japanese bows and Bows made for combat.

Do they look different? Are they made different? I know nothing about Japanese archery and have a chance to pick up a signed bow. The price is adequate but is it just a high school bow or is it a Menji peroiod weapon? As I've only seen one bow, I have no idea as to cost, different types of construction, how to tell if it old etc, etc. Can someone help me out with the basics

Thanks Rich :) It website helped quite a bit. What I've been offered seems to be a typical sport bow and there doesn't appear to be a difference unless it is a very old bow. The key seems to be in the arrows - war points and the multitude of types vrs sport points.

Cheers,

Greg
