Old Moro kris with tang repair
4 Attachment(s)
Another thread posts pictures of a Moro kris with a tang repair.
I acquired this a while back from a seller who told me this is an old, native tang repair. Am planning to stain the blade again. Opinions? |
Hello Bill,
Yes, I've seen this approach to repair a broken tang quite a few times - seems to hold amazingly well even in battle... I'm looking forward to seeing this kris restored to full glory! (While the repair is genuine, the grip "wrap" certainly isn't Moro! That one can only get better... ) I'd appreciate if you could post pics of the disassembled pieces - one doesn't get an opportunity to study these as easily as in keris. ;) Regards, Kai |
Hello everybody,:)
Bill, I agree with Kai. As a matter of fact, I think Adni (MAG) had a sundang for sale, a year or two ago, which had a similar tang repair. Perhaps you could see the pictures if they're still available. Regards. |

Bill:
Is this the same sword that was posted by Punal here: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1528 ? Ian. |
Sorry, my mistake.:(

Ian, Thank you for posting this. It is the same sword. Did not know it was posted before. Does anyone have additional comments? Bill |
Curious
So Bill, you started to unwrap the hilt and found the munsala underneath the sisal/jute wrap ?
Can you describe it; is there a prayer or incantation written on the cloth ? |

Rick, It is just as I bought it. I am going by what the seller told me. I don't really want to unwrap it and I am not in recent close contact with the seller. However I am also curious. I will email him and see what he can tell us. I do want to re-stain the blade. |
From comparing the two pictures it looks like someone unwrapped the handle before you received it .
