Hi Paolo,
We have had quite a bit of discussion on these swords in the past; a good thread on Kampilan can be found in the Classics post at the head of the column.

Nice sword. :)

A NICE LOOKING SWORD :D

TWO THINGS ABOUT THIS SWORD THAT ARE DIFFERENT THAN USUAL

1. MOST KAMPILLIANS DON'T HAVE A SCABBARD. YOURS HAS A SCABBARD WHICH LOOKS TO BE A GOOD OLD ONE. WHY? IT APPEARS TO HAVE A PATINA AND IS CRUDELY MADE AND APPEARS TO BE MADE IN THE PROPER WAY. HELD TOGETHER AT THE TIP BUT DESIGNED TO BE ABLE TO STRIKE WHILE STILL SHEATHED AND CUT THRU DROPPING THE SCABBARD.

2. THE BLADE HAS A FULLER A FEATURE I DON'T REMEMBER SEEING.

THE HAIR IN THE HANDLE APPEARS TO BE DONE THE PROPER WAY BUT DOES LOOK A BIT RAGGED, IS IT BRITTLE WITH AGE? IT LOOKS LIKE THE FIBER BANDS ARE ORIGINAL TO THE HANDLE BUT IT APPEARS BLACK CORD HAS BEEN ADDED AT A LATER TIME. THE BLADE AND TIP ARE IN GOOD CONDITION SO CONGRADULATIONS ON A KEEPER. :D

Also if dealer said that the hairs was of orangu'tan, I think they are dyed goat, and sure they looks dryed out and towy. What can I do to make them better ?
How old do You think the kampilan is ? (I'm quite obsessive about the ancientness of the objects !!!)
Regards
Paolo
