Hi and welcome, the first two blades should be posted in the Ethnographic Forum; however the two kerises that you have posted belong here in the keris forum .
I would suggest that you make another post for Ethnographic and attach the pictures of your first two examples and place them there . They will be deleted from your post here. Thanks ! |
About the three keris I can say all three are straight bladed. The dapur is brodjol. All three keris are from Solo, Surakarta. Scabbard is for all three wrangka gajaman. The last one has a copper pendok. Pamor of the first keris is an adeg type, the other two in my opinion Beras or Wos Wutah. The mendaks are new. Three very nice keris to start with.

Welcome CollectingNewbie,
All 3 kerises looks familiar... like I've seen it before and from the same source. :D The 2nd piece is more interesting. I think it's sporting pamor Tejo Kinurung "Three times lightning". According to Tammen's, Not a general pamor motif, but certainly quite impressive. However, the execution of this example is a bit messy... :o Good start to keris collection, though. ;) Once bitten by the bug, there is no cure... |

When i had 10 keris i told my wife i would just get one more (i like the number 11 ;) ).... then when i had 21 keris i told my wife, just one more (likewise the number 22).....after 32 my wife just stopped listening to me. I thing you've done well for your collection start. At the very least you have acquired 3 authentic antiques, which is not everyones's initial experience with the keris. Good luck and good hunting. :) |
Thanks guys, Im glad to hear I didnt make a beginners mistake with these 3. I bought them from a gentleman who has been selling alot of these style blades lately. I love them, I hope to get one with a curved blade soon, Im not yet up on any of the terms that get thrown around in here but Im starting to pcik it up slowly.

Rather Than A Keris
Make your next purchase a book on the subject.
For starters possibly THE KRIS by Edward Frey ;third edition. Probably available through Amazon.com or most online book sellers. An educated consumer is an astute buyer. Also read this thread: http://www.vikingsword.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000402.html |
I noticed that in your last photo of you entire collection that you posted on the other forum that for some reason you turned all the hilts of you 3 keris in the other direction.
http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3276 This is wrong. The correct position is as they appear in the first photos. :) |
