Unknown Instrument
4 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a lot with these items in it,I'm guessing that they are some type of instrument to strike a gong, etc. They measure approx. 9" long and the heads are solid;I.m not sure if they are resin or some type of nut.
All comments would be appreciated about their origin and function. |
Yes, they are tabuh, used to strike a large gong, these look Javanese, quite similar to my own, but I guess they could be from anywhere that people strike gongs.

Thanks! Now all I need to do is find a gong!

Peripherally related - Japanese temple bowl gong and mallet
2 Attachment(s)
From the Brimfield Market at least a decade ago (J & J's at the time so I omit 'flea' before market). I spotted the big bowl gong and bought it and the dealer said that somewhere in his van was the mallet that went with it and for me to please return before I left for the day. I am glad I followed his advice. When I did so, he gave me the mallet and implored me to buy two late (Boxer era) Chinese sabers for $75 each which I presumed at the time were replicas, but which upon closer examination months later proved to be antiques. The ruler is 4".
