Indonesian tobacco knife
quite interesting; both the knife as the manual activity

Thanks gp. Large blade, careful strokes, firmly fixed bundle of leaves, frequent sharpening on the wetstone. The posture of the slicer is interesting also, as the long hilt is controlled by the bottom of the right thigh as the hand directs the blade. The feet are firmly planted with the left leg extended for stability. I imagine this is a weighty blade that needs the balance of a large hilt. The strain on the slicer's back should be severe—that is not a natural posture.

Enclosed a pic of a stamp from 2008, referring to the traditional cutting of the Hercegowina tobacco in the past...
Next to a jolly article on a lady who emigrated to the USA and continued her tobacco "trade" there....:D |
