Edged arms in Trakošcan castle, Croatia
6 Attachment(s)
I went on an excursion to the Krapina-Zagorje region North of Zagreb, Croatia. There I visited some castles. Trakošcan (Drachenstein/Dragonrock) castle used to be owned by the Counts of Celje and then by the Draškovic family who had a long history of successfully defending this region against the Ottomans who never occupied it. I was delighted to find a decent arms collection in the castle. Surprisingly many of the swords were schiavonas. Not sure if the many family members in military service were armed with them or simply collected them. Trakošcan is not by the sea but inland in hilly landscape with vineyards beneath the Alps.

I really love these museum pictures posts. Thank you for posting!
It make me wonder if these could be added as a picture gallery on the site somehow. It would be fantastic to have a database of museum pictures to reference. |
Wonderful! Thank you!
