Question about a symbol on Mandau
1 Attachment(s)
On the left is the sheath of a mandau and on the right a part of a Pisau Raut. Both from Kalimantan (Dayaks).
Does anyone know what the symbol circled in red means? |
Hoi Godfried,
it might be a tree of life motif. Regards, Kai |
I was thinking the same as Kai. I was also thinking of the centipede.
|
Well, both are possible but which of those 2 options would it be. Hopefully an expert will come to this thread who can provide convincing evidence of what it really is. By the way, I have seen the motif on multiple Dayak objects.

Good day Godfried,
It is for the first time i saw mandau sheath like that, i meant it for the anatomy of the sheath not the carving. A full picture of the sheath will be better. |

Sheet of a Jimpul (mandau).

The motif 'circled' in red on the 'piso raout' are resembling the teeth of the aso.
