Our new toy - An unusual barong sword
This is our latest toy, a Barong sword with unusual carved handle:
http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/...02252/ph-0.jpg and a close up on the handle. http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/...02252/ph-2.jpg For more details see: Unusual barong Sword We would love to hear opinions from the Barong experts on possible origin and age. |
Artzi,
To hell with the carving, just good to hear from you! |
What Ariel said!
Comparing this with Fig.62 in Cato's Moro Swords I come to the conclusion that it's a variation on the Naga motif . A very nice acquisition ; congratulations !! |
I just saw this on your site (grumble, grumble, envy, envy  ). Nice piece, I would guess middle of 19thc especially due to the carving.

Verrry nice
Agree with Rick. A rare Naga variant hilt on a blade that shows a lot of lamination with a pretty etch. Lovely piece. Thanks for showing us this one Artzi.
When you think about moving this one on, well ... you know ... call ... Ian. |
Another lovely piece Artzi, congratulations!
I hope you publish your collection one day. Spiral |
Sulu in origin judging from the punto .

Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
