Pair of long Parangs
1 Attachment(s)
Just acquired these two parangs on a Scottish Borders auction
labelled as 2 eastern swords with cockatoo handles 40 in. ;) Look like long Parang Amanrmu to me. Any comments would be appreciated. Better Photos when they arrive. |
Awesome. Are the blades chromed and how long are they?

For any archipelago sword 40" total length and blades of about 35" are extremely long. Based on the blade shape alone, it certainly is not related to amanremu from northern Sumatra. I need more details, especially on the hilt. Regards, Kai |

A friend found them from a previous sale he remembered, apparently they are chromed presentation parangs. I'd prefer unchromed/sharp....They were VERY cheap.

Swords arrived today, they are beasts, indeed chromed. There are a few areas of black rust spotting on the blades, no flaking. There is a pattern of eyelash arcs near the guard.
Grips are varnished, i'll strip off the varnish, and oil finish or wax them. The front half of the blades are quite sharp, the rear half is not sharp at all, basically rectangular. The balance point is where the transition happens fairly rapidly as the blade widens. The blade is distal tapered. Wood grips have some scrape marks. All tight. The grips are stylized cockerels. |
Are the blades flexible?
