Persian axe translation and comments
6 Attachment(s)
This is an (i believe persian) axe head. Very good feeling and construction, and very sharp. Any comments on the age, text and the type of handle once had?

No help on the translation, but the head I believe to be circa 1850 and the handle/shaft hardwood.-- bbjw

Thanks! Similar axes i saw they have an iron handle.

Looks Qajar period, so I agree with 19c.

Yes, This shows very similar axes, note they have much larger socket eye diameter than steel hafted ones, to take a larger dameter (and longer) wood haft. The Qajar parade axes tend to have skinnier hafts and thinner blades welded to the socket piece, as they were not intended to actually be used. OP's one looks like a proper weapon one. |
The photo of Side A is not so clear, but it looks like the shahada, the profession of faith - "There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God"
Side B is Qur'an 48:1 - "Indeed We have given you a manifest victory" |
