Hello
Not my usual field of collecting but I picked this up recently and am wondering what it is. French 1845 is one suggestion but what do you think? pictures were taken in a rush so are poor. I can take some more at the weekend if required. Thanks Roy |
It looks a lot like a model 1850 foot officer's sword. Chape is...Atypical for that. They're usually finned chapes. Blade marks are difficult to parse. It doesn't quite have that initial dip at the base of the spine I'd expect. But it very much seems of a kind. Something adjacent to that perhaps? Like made around same time, same general popular style, but not exactly that?

Something odd here, you never see the scabbard seam in the outside as worn, so a dodgy mix and mash here!

Thank you Gentlemen,
The blade fits the scabbard really well, but as you say, it appears to be the wrong way around. As I said, not my field of collecting so I think I will pass it on. Thanks again, Roy |
