Interesting and Unusual Buckler Shield from the Arabian Sea/ Red Sea Region
3 Attachment(s)
Here's an interesting shield from the Arabian Sea(Oman)/Red Sea region. It has a unique copper finial and protrudes about as far out(8.5in.) or more than any shield I have seen from the region. Its circumference is 11.5in. The handle is from wood, carved in an unusual manner, and sewn into the shield's form.
While this style of buckler is generally associated with Oman, they could also be found in Somalia and Ethiopia, likely via trade with Oman and Zanzibar. This one is rather unique stylistically. |
A very interesting shield/buckler, thanks for posting. I havn't seen another example, clearly it is inspired by the more commonly found type associated with Oman & Zanzibar...

I just realized I used the word "circumference" in the original post when I meant "diameter".
