Cup hilted sword ... mark unknown
12 Attachment(s)
I have bought this sword twerlve years ago. I could swear i have shown it here in the forum but, for some reason, i can not find such thread.
However the problem i had then in identifying the blade Smith's marks remains unsolved. So i decided to be back here with such sword, in case some of you guys are familiar with its marks and ID them for me. This is a sword with a thin rapier blade (20 mm wide x 8,3 mm thick), with the inscription VIVA EL REY - DE PORTVGAL. Although the phrase is no doubt Portuguese, i believe the sword was imported. The only reason i am not 100% sure that it was produced in Spain is because i can not find the blade marks in the Palomares Nomina, nor anywhere, which is peculiar. The cup bowl and quillons are rather large (16 cms + 32 cms.). The blade is also a lengthy one, with its 98 cms. So gentlemen, any hint on the mark/s will be much welcome. . |
Hi Fernando,
I reckon this is the one you are looking for. My Regards, Norman. http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ghlight=rapier |
Tapadh leat, Norman  .
Yes, this was the thread; a treatise indeed ! You will notice the marks were not discussed; the seller didn't comment on them and i also didn't pay them much attention, as they looked too faded to investigate. But when reviewing (once more) my collection files i realized that they ought to be some actual smith's personal marks and decided to raise the question in here, hoping that someone would help crack the riddle. |
De nada meu amigo :) ;)
