Trumbash info request
4 Attachment(s)
thank first of all for accepting me in your forum. I collect African white weapons from the horn of Africa (Ethiopian and Somali). I have now found blades gaps further south of which I am poorly informed. I liked having an opinion as a date on this trumbash and its possible construction date. Thanks Oriano

Welcome to the forum Oriano! :)
I am not an expert for weapons from Central Africa but I can give you some material for reading! ;) Here a piece I've owned once, so far I know it's now in the collection of an other member: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...light=trumbash And here a general discussion about an age of these blades: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...light=trumbash For your piece I would guess 1930 or later. A nice piece! :) Regards, Detlef |
Forget to mention, I would clean the edges, look to the first provided thread, they has been polished originally and rust in any form isn't good for a blade, corrosion is active, it's not patina. Oil the wood when possible, it's care for the piece and will preserve it for future generations! ;)

If storage conditions can't be reliably controlled, I'm not sure what would be the best strategy under such environmental settings... Regards, Kai |
