Hi Peeps,
Brought this at a carboot recently but am not convinced of it's authenticity, or at least i'm not convinced that it has not been embellished over time? Seemingly the seller gave it a clean before bringing it to the carboot, hence the large clean areas on the head!!! The head is made of a heavy hardwood while the shaft is made of a light wood. The adornment looks to be made of various base metals to include brass screws and older pins. Any comments welcome but please be nice lol Indy |
A priest?

How long is it? I suspect a priest would be shorter and as they are used to bash slimy fish, it'd be made so it could be more easily cleaned.

Maybe an "Odd Fellows," piece or some other similar organization.

"Trench Club"?

If the head and shaft are of different woods and therefore joined at the "neck", I would have thought that use as a club would cause breakage easily.

That depends on the joint. If the 'ball' had a socket drilled a decent distance into it that accepted the full diameter shaft and a bit of decent glue, it could be as strong as a solid piece. If it has a short skinny threaded rod holding the ball and haft together, it would have a short life if you hit anything with it.
The size info would be useful, if it's a three inch long item, could be a sewing bobbin. ;) |
