Bamboo swordstick
1 Attachment(s)
just won this swordstick in an antique dealer's auction here in the UK, bamboo stick, rootball handle. no provenance, no dimensions yet, being shipped to me in a few days. appears to have a square cross section blade, friction fit, joint at a node for concealment. not sure if it's european or asian...

Nice sword Wayne. Please post better pics when you get it. Based on the evidence so far it looks Asian to me.

Most surely European, probably French, as these were quite popular by the late 19th century. I've handled a certain amount of them, better ones have internal compression lock, Japanese-style scrimshaw-like carving all along the shaft, but the blades are usually marked Klingenthal, basically a sharpened foil's blade.
Pretty coveted these days. |
was just guessing on the lock, hopefully it is an 'internal compression lock' as uou mnetioned. will know more next week or so.

It's European, likely UK made. Not a factory made retail example, home made.
