Hi Guys
Any ideas about this blade? Date or origin? Thank you |
Look like a takouba, think Ian will comment soon! :) ;)
Regards, Detlef |
These blades are never easy to determine, as blanks in an older broadsword style were produced in Solingen until well into the 19th century. Markings often do not help much either, as many of them were applied locally. And then there is the possibility of a local blade imitating a European import. The hilt itself looks much newer, from the 20th century.
Iain has studied hundreds of takouba and has developed a good feel for these blades, hopefully he will respond. In the meantime, I would start browsing examples on his site with similar style blades: http://takouba.org/catalog/index.php...-fuller-blades Sincerely, Teodor |
Thank you both
I fund something similiar on his beautiful website http://takouba.org/catalog/index.php/blades/takouba-123 It looks very similar - number 123- in the Tabouka Chinese menu... Best, Kubur |
Mounts look to be 20th century.
The blade I think is not that similar to the example linked from my site. The blade profile is dramatically different. I think this one is locally made and probably early 20th century. Are there any blade marks? |
If this is the turn of the 20th century, then it might have been part of the Mahdist movement of that time.
