Queen Anne pistol by James KNIGHTS of Halesworth
8 Attachment(s)
This is my youngest pistol of this type. As the maker's name on the barrel is hardly readable except the first to letters KN and in my reference books list no gunsmith with these letters in Halesworth it was a difficult search in the internet but I found the gunmaker James Knights in the year 1748.
Remarkable on this pistol are its iron mountings and the very peculiar style of its sideplate |
Hello
Surely the number 1 indicates that it was part of a pair. Asimismon test punches are reversed, and the first time I see a jagged edge. Affectionately, Fernando K |
Another very nice pistol!
Fernando, Maybe the proof and view are reversed because they are provincial /private proofs?...not London. I do not know, as private proofs are to be seen laid out as the London proof and view marks are. Maybe there was no special requirements at that time? (For private marks) Yes, one of a pair. Very nice sideplate, Corrado, and altogether attractive! |
