Hi

just want to share some pictures belonged to my friend (courtesy of Rudi Oei), he lived in Medan and a true collector of Keris and other tosan aji

uploaded here with his permission

here we can see naga carving on an old keris, but this one done in different style from javanese naga, and somewhat the steel is more porous ??

and another keris, I will post more interesting keris here

@Alan, if you happen to drop by Medan, I can arrange meeting with him, surely one day won't be enough, his collections are incredible in terms of quality, but mostly Sumatran and Bugis keris

Part of his collection is shown in the book "Keris dan senjata pusaka bahari" which I bought recently. :)

he said to me that collecting sumatran and bugis keris is much easier than javanese keris

why ? because nobody copying old sumatran / bugis keris, whereas we know there are empus in Sumenep specializing in make putran blade, which almost indistinguishable from the originals

they even managed to age the blade so it looked old and it was very difficult for beginners to spot it

The both shown blades are from Peninsula IMVHO and not from Sumatra!

I tend to agree. I am also not convinced that either of these blades are particularly old.
