What dagger do I have here?

Hello,
does someone knows what this is and how old? I think maybe ottoman? The dagger is 46cm long. Thanks and best regards Andreas |
It is a flyssa from Algeria, not my area of collecting but it look good and old to my eyes. I would guess that it is from around 1900 until 1930. Do a little bit search by the keyword "flyssa" and you will find more examples and informations. :)

yes, kaybele flyssa, the brass covered grip, blade shape & decoration and the carved scabbard are classic.

Great, thank you!

Hi!
I'll add that your flyssa is probably much older, around 1880-1890. A good thing is your scabbard decorated only on the exposed part. The late flyssa are often decorated on both sides. We have an expert called Emmanuel, you can have a look at his threads... And yes, in a way, it's Ottoman as Algeria was a part of the Empire... Best, Kubur |
Hi Andreas,
I am no expert, but the flyssa is my favourite edged weapon :) I agree with Kubur, very late 19th century. I don't know how far these were made into the 20th century Detlef, but quality keeps going down after the 19th century. Recently though, I have seen some very simple stylized flyssa that look very modern. Lots of information and discussion on the flyssa and Kabyles on this forum. Regards, Emanuel |
