Peninsula blade or not?
9 Attachment(s)
This poor keris went several times through ebay and at last I've given the seller an offer to the amount of what I think is worth the handle alone since this handles are very rare, the scabbard/sarung is broken in parts but I think it's an easy job to restore it. The blade is in poor condition and I will see if it worth to restore it. I am very unsure if it is a Malay blade and if this blade belong to this sarung. I want to ask you what you think about this blade.
Here the pictures from the seller. |
I tend to think not. There is a lot of severe erosion though. The greneng is virtually gone, so no clue there. My first glancing thought was Madura, but when i second guess myself i think Sumatra. Both thoughts lack substantial argument, but i still don't think it's Malay. :)

thank you for comment. My first guess was Madura as well but get doubts and Sumatra could be a good guess but like you I have to say that it lacks substantial argument. For me is this blade a real mystery and I am curious what others have to say. :) Regards, Detlef |

Have mirrored one picture in the way we are used to look at blades, maybe this will be from help.

I'd love to hear some other opinions on this blade if they are out there. While Detlef and i both seem to have similar opinions on this one i don't think either of us are too sure of that opinion. :)

Looks like an old trade blade. Malay dress - could be either side of the Malacca Straits. Cute hilt - old ones are not that common anyway. Probably not worth the bother of restoring unless the sheath was clearly made for the blade. If not, pop the hilt off and put it on a stand. The other bits can go in the parts box.

exactly what I've thought byself about this keris when I bought it. I doubt that the sheath was made for this blade but you never know. I will see it when I have it in my hands. Thank you very much for comment. Regards, Detlef |
Maybe Madura or maybe Sumatra, just look the material, the material not bugis material, but the same materials with madura/javanese keris :) :)
