WW2 Moro punal hybrid
12 Attachment(s)
I just got this interesting WW2 punal which is a combination of old and new, East meets West. The razor sharp 8.5" x 2" blade with a horn guard inserted into a stacked washer handle (5"),with an aluminum butt cap.The punal scabbard has been covered in the electrical cloth tape of that era and not the plastic.I think it would have been very effective.

Very interesting. Reminds me of my Tanto, with a barong handle.
|
I'd like to see that.

Looks like a very good design to be held "ice pick" and with the subtle downcurve facing you for deep shearing when you pull back
|
The work on the blade and on the scabbard top are from Mindanao. The blade okir work looks to me to be from the Maranao tribe (on Mindanao around the Lake Lanao region).
Blade and the rest does look WWII. Interesting piece and thank you for sharing. :) |

The grip and pommel are a spittin' image of the U.S. Navy's knives. The Mk III is the pattern, (I think), but my memory for this exact detail has faded! |
That would be a MkII, kinda sorta. The Mk 3 is current issue. There were many hundreds of "theater" knives, with stacked leather handles. ;)
