dapur kabo teki pamor tambal loek 7 pendok silver ho can tel me te meaning on the back of the pendok regards semar |
I'm not sure why no one has commented as of yet on your post. I am rather fond of this dhapur and like your example. As for the meaning of the numbers on the back of the pendok, i suspect this is more likely talismanic (numerology) rather than a date and as such is probably not decipherable by anyone other than the original owner or creator.

If this were a Surakarta keris i would image the "P" might represent one of the Pakubuwonos, but since it is obviously Yogyakarta dress i have no idea.

I do not recognise this crest, it is not Pakualamanan, Kraton Jogjakarta, nor is it Mangkunegaraan or Kraton Surakarta.
In fact, it looks like a trade mark, but the numbers puzzle me, I have no idea what they represent. Sometimes you'll see something like this with numbers that can be aligned to a date and represent a birthday or anniversary, or some other important event; at other times you will see a "magic square" with numbers having a talismanic intent, but I cannot see either of these things in this number arrangement. I don't know what it is. |
Possibly a Madurese crest?

This is my first post here so please be gentle. I found the crest stamped similar to a woodcarving I have from Madura. The heraldic nature of it reminiscent of the V.O.C influence there. I'm not in any way proposing that the Keris itself is Madurese, only that the stamped crest may be.

Well, it looked similar to me anyway. I suppose I am missing something.

Welcome to the forums btw. Are keris your area of interest? |
Thank you David. I think the woodcarving is probably just a headpiece from a piece of semi-cheap furniture, but I really lile the mix of European and Asian which so many ornaments from Madura display. I picked it up in some curio shop in Sarawak and I really enboy it. When I saw the crest on the Pendok I felt wanted to share this with you all.
To answer your other question, yes, I am interested in and have a modest collection of Keris. But my main focus these days are the arms of Atjeh, including, but not exlusively Keris. |
