But now we're getting into statues holding weapons, instead of the weapons themselves as monuments. |

three more.
the ultimate arms and armour monument is of course Trajan's column in rome. more swords than you can shake a stick at & lots of armour, shields, fortifictions, spears, falx, etc. etc... 1. wm. wallace, scotland, looks a bit art deco. makes him look like a dwarf in the LOTR. doesn't look like at all like mel gibson. yes, he was as short, but not so wide and didn't have a beard. 2. alfred, winchester, traditional victorian statue. why a greek hoplite shield? 3. achilles, hyde park. needs a bit more clothing. (;)) it's getting cold out. nice sword tho. he needs an arrow in his heel. if only he'sd heeded OSHA and worn his safety boots and goggles. also doesn't look at all like brad pitt. if only the sculptors were more accurate. like trajan. :) |

Tugu kujang in the Sunda region in Western Java

The kudi or kujang was the typical weapon in Sunda and not the kris, so the Sundanese erected a monument for the kujang.

Sultan Kudarat:

the 'artist' got the grip on the kampilan backwards. :D
immortalized forever. i wonder how many historians it took. Q: how many historians does it take to change a light bulb? A: none. they're still arguing about the stamps on the original, the materials used and the methods of manufacturing. moot point because the archaeologists won't let them remove the old one until it is radio-carbon dated and the government has declared it a site of significant historical interest, and is in the process of writing a 500 page set of regulations on how to repair anything in the site which the historians are also arguing with as being inaccurate and using too many modern tools. the collectors are refusing to discuss it as it is less than 100 years old. the re-enactors are trying to sneak in and replace it with a 100 watt equivalent LED. |
ironic in that this particular statue is in the Province of Sultan Kudarat, a Maguindanao province. notice too, that the dagger (which i'm assuming is a kris) has an unusual T-top pommel...
