Is this Chinese or Indonesian sword?
3 Attachment(s)
This just ended on ebay. I thought it was Chinese from the handle but the blade. Not sure. What do the Indonesian collector say?
|
I don't think it is Chinese, but I would love more description and maybe a picture of the guard.
Thanks, Josh |
I carefuly lean to the Philipines for this sword.
|
Me too but that's all there was. Looks like the handle and the guard are both horn?
|
Hmmmm. A toughy. At this point I am hesitantly leaning the other direction towards Indonesia based on the blade. Better pictures would be helpful.
|
The hilt might well be Filipino, but the blade is harder to place. More pictures of the hilt would be helpful.
Ian. |
I also think that it could be from Indonesia or the Philippines, hard to say without better pictures.
Regards, Detlef |
Another thought: the blade could have been traded from Indonesia to a Filipino, thus a Filipino hilt. Again, better pictures would be helpful.
|
The decoration on the blade looks a bit Borneo in style .
A la those brass stirrup hilted 'parang naburs' that we see so often . |

This Filipino knife just finished on eBay. Note the pommel, brass ferrule and multifaceted handle, similar to our mystery sword.
Ian Here are the auction pictures. |
Thanks. That looks a lot like it.
I guess I was thinking of the octagon shape grip and the steel? ferrule. Like those swords that have the monsterhead pommel form Visaya? sometimes have a circular guard like this only smaller too. |
