Moro Kris with an odd pommel

Photos to share.
A Kris from Sulu. An odd pommel shape that I don't recall having encountered before. Pieces had been broken off so it's hard to tell what it looked originally. Slender blade has 5 waves. Blade fits into the scabbard, but not made for the sword. OAL 24", blade length 19". width of blade 1" |
Kino,
This is a lovely, interesting piece, per usual from you! I have one with a very similar pommel and I have always considered it a stylized version of the sarimanok (Moro chicken motif). I sorta look at this a a different version in much the same way we see a variety of versions of Jawa Demam on Indonesian and Malay kerises. The blade of mine is similar in size as well. Of course I could very well be wrong and have wondered if it had more to do with a stylized flower motif. I am traveling at the moment, but will try to post a pic of mine to this thread when I get back home. |

Kino,
Here is mine for comparison of the pommel styles. This pommel is made of green horn. You can certainly see the similarities. |
