Thank you friends. |
Sorry, not my area of expertise. Back to the top for others to comment!
BTW, any provenance known? Regards, Kai |
the socketed leaf shape was popular in many cultures over centuries, and is still being produced. could be roman, celtic, german, other european, asian, or african, etc. provinance would help pin it down a bit. who/where did you buy it from? where was it found? was it found with any other artifacts? that could help pin it down more. hole may have been for mounting on an old museum exhibit. they're usually not as destructive nowadays when mounting them.
my (last year's model ;)) roman hasta for comparison http://www.wulflund.com/img/product_...a_spear_g1.jpg |
Hi Multumesc,
I'm with Kronckew on your item. Its leaf-like shape was made almost identically from the Ancient Greek and Roman period right up to the rebirth of those old styles, the 15th/16th century Renaissance period - meaning a possible span of time of at lest 2,500 years! Unless you have detailed information on the actual layer of earth the piece was excavated from, no definite dating would be justifiable, at least in my opinion. Best, Michael |
