Kurt,
That is a very nice yataghan, and very well preserved. I held off on translating it, since I don't know Turkish and the text is a bit far away. but here are what I can help you with: 2nd pic, Work of Sharif, Owner Mohammad Shukri, year 1257 3rd pic, 2nd line, (No man like Ali and no sword like Zulfeqaar) on the scabbard, 1257. I hope that is helpful, get a close up picture of the text and someone should be able to help with the rest. |

Hi,
The first line is: Kendi nutk-ı pakdır nutk eyleyen Perverdegar can be roughly translated as; His word is true/well spoken since it's Allah who makes him speak - referring to Ali Best, |

Hello Kurt,
The yataghan bellow is in the collection of Historical and folk art museum of Rethymnon, in Crete. It was donated by a Cretan chieften that aquired it as a war trophy. It must be of the same maker! The silver scabbard was made in Crete by the last owner, so is not original of the sword! |

Thank you for pictures and info, nice that the old original leather sheath is obtained under the Cretan silver Mounts . I love this kind Yatagan. Kurt |
