Help with sword identification.

Hi,
This sword came in a very rusty condition but cleaned up quite well, which unfortunately revealed no markings at all. I thought it was a cutlass at first but now I'm thinking it may be shortened from a longer sword. The blade is single fullered and slightly curved, is 28" long and slender at slightly over 1" wide at the ricasso. The handle is wood and the hilt does not seem to have been replaced at any time and has a nicely shaped teardrop quillon I know it's not much of a hint but it was purchased in the US. Any ideas gratefully received! CC |
I could be wrong, but I think it's Cutlass.

I would go for the sword shortened blade version. The handle could be period home made; it doesn't look like the work of a sword smith :o .

Thanks guys. I'd like to think it was a cutlass but I think Fernando is probably right.
Anyone else out there recognize the blade type? Is the long flat ricasso an indicator of any model? CC. |
