hello all,
i my friend recently purchased this sword and asked me to identify it but im really no expert in european swords. this form i guess will be the best choice for id this sword.. im thinking maybe viking? but ofcourse thats just a guess can anybody help? |
Not immediately obvious
The form of the blade, if I am viewing the picture correctly as the piece having a raised mid rib, would not be expected in Viking Age material.
For the blade shape, I'd question the possibility of Roman from across the room, but I will need to crack the books as to whether the hilt would fit that context. Do I see a trio of intentional depressions in the forte of the blade? What is the length of the blade? |
70 cm total lenth and 56 cm blade lenth sir

Looks like one of the large Basilard varients to me. Some of the Swiss and German ones are sword size, and the metal shoes of this hilt look very like the 15thC ones.
