Pulwar Resources

Hello all,

For my art history senior thesis my adviser suggested I take a look in our museum's archives and see if we have a piece I was interested in and make a portfolio on it for the museum's use. I ended up settling on what appears to be a pulwar from Afghanistan dating to the 1800's. I have documented the various measurements of the piece (except the weight as I did not have access to a scale.) and I have taken photographs of it, which I can try to upload if necessary.

I initially posted over at myarmoury.com looking for resources that I might draw from, and it was suggested that I try here. I have plenty of information on Indian Talwar and Hindu arms, and much of my paper will involve me explaining why I believe it not to be of Indian origin, however I will need something to draw comparison from to back up my claims. I'm looking for any books, websites, auction catalogs, images, or anything else that might prove useful.

So far my resources include:
Hindu Arms and Ritual, , edited by Robert Elgood
Islamic Arms and Armour of Muslim India, by Dr. Syed Zafar Haider
Islamic Arms and Armor, edited by Robert Elgood
The Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, edited by Julian Raby

Thank you for your time,
Josh Maxwell

Please share pictures so that we might be able to discuss what features about the piece may make it specifically Afghani versus Indian.
