Fort Cornwallis 1788, Penang, Malaysia

Following The Guns of Fort Siloso, and other interesting Museum threads posted on the Forum recently, here are some pics of Fort Cornwallis established by the British in Penang in 1788.
I find it interesting that the once Colonial countries, take extreme pride in their heritage, when in a lot of cases, the actual Colonial Powers tend to let their own heritage at home fall into decay. The other thing to consider here is that the climate, generally wet and humid, is not conducive to preserving metal and material objects. |

Spectacular pics! Thanks for posting them. These old forts of the 18th always fascinated me, especially in this context. Perhaps you should send them to the other side as well, for comments? Very interesting!

Again a series of great pictures of a fascinating subject. In a way, these old defence works and what they represented or more correctly, supressed, is what led to my interest in Ethnic weapons. The wars and conflicts fought between Imperial powers and indigenous populations caught my imagination at a young age, and these dramatic structures made the words of history dance from the pages of many a dusty books. Many thanks for posting.
