Latest Find

Hello everyone, this small dagger is my latest addition. Although the blade is not in the best of condition I still think it to be a rather nice find. The wood hilt is of kamagong wood with silver fittings and cross guard. The guard is interesting as the ends are in the shape of crosses. Only one of the hilts wire wrappings are still in place with the twisted one missing. The remnants were still intact but I have removed them in preparation on replacement. The overall length is 11-1/4 inches with a 7-1/2 inch blade that is 3/4 inches at its widest point. I believe this to be another Luzon piece and hope that I will get confirmation of that from the experts. As always any comments and information on this piece would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Robert,
since no one from the experts give an opinion until now here the opinion from a non expert. ;) :D All what I have seen until now I would say that you are correct, it's a typical Luzon dagger from around 1900. Your replacement from the silver wire seems a little bit to thin. BTW, nice one! Regards, Detlef |
Hello Detlef, the wire that is on it now is the original single strand silver wire. The missing wire, the one that I am going to replace is made of two silver wires twisted together. ;)

At this point I agree with your plans for this Luzon piece. I agree with Sajen with the dating. Nice piece (I love silver :D ).......

Hello Robert, uups, now I see and understand! :D i should read better! Regards, Detlef |
I LIKE IT. THE GAURD IS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT I USUALLY SEE AND APPEARS TO REPRESENT TWO CHRISTIAN CROSSES. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR RESTORATION. :)
