Unusual plug bayonet
4 Attachment(s)
Hello!!
THis knife belongs to a friend and he has seirous doubts about origin of the knife. The knife is a unusual plug bayonet with a strange blade, someone could tell me something about it ? Maybe a mix between saber and plug bayonet? best regards carlos |
It looks like a made up piece to me

Nicely fashioned hilt, the blade most interesting made in form of scaled down 16th century Landsknecht sabre it would seem. Blade seems to have some age to it.

Excellent observation Jim. Following on from that I have also seen 'plug bayonets' attributed as Spanish with 'bowie-esq' clipped points. So although the shape of this blade is far removed from the classic form, it's not a million miles from some of the strange late Spanish efforts. At first glance the blade looks like a simple piece of flat steel. But on closer inspection it looks like the grinding could be more complex and subtle. Perhaps Carlos could give us a top down look at the spine and tell us about the temper, distal/profile taper etc? |
One further observation.
Although the blade shape seems somewhat eccentric and even 'crude' at first glance, if you take a line from the pommel nut through the hilt in a straight line and extend it down the blade it seems to exit right through the tip. Interesting geometry. |
