Knife for ID
4 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
Here are pics of a recently acquired small knife. I am almost embarassed at posting pics of such an uninteresting knife, but am still trying to increase my small knowledge of edged weapons. Perhaps a member will recognise the style and be able to tell me the country of origin? Thanks heaps guys. Best, Brian |
It is from the Philippines, Luzon IMHO. More knowledge members will be able to tell you more.

I'm in total agreement with Detlef on this one. I have one just like it, only the diamond shaped side panels on mine are in silver.

I AGREE LUZON I THINK OF THIS FORM AS A BOWIE KNIFE. PERHAPS FROM AMERICAN INFLUENCES BUT NOT SURE OF THAT. WITH LUCK A PHILIPPINE BOWIE COPLLECTOR IS OUT THERE TO PIN DOWN THE TIME AND PLACE OF THESE INTERESTING FIGHTING KNIVES. WHILE THEY ARE ATTRACTIVE ENOUGH TO INTEREST A TOURIST THESE WERE WELL MADE FOR USE, AT LEAST THOSE I HAVE HANDLED WERE. NICE ONE :)

I totally agree Berry, these are NOT your average piece of tourist junk but quite serviceable knives. All of the ones that I have handled are very well made and of good quality steel. Having the original sheath is also a plus. Real users, not just something for show. From what I can tell these seem to have appeared around WWII.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your prompt and informative replies. I have learned just a little more!
Best, Brian |
