Koummya with an extension??
 

Hi Awhile back, I posted a question about koummya parts. This one just came in fairly recent manufacture I think. It has what appears to be a sheath extension. It appears mismatched and rejoined?? What are your thoughts any
opinions as to why this happened? One photo shows an older similar style but it's smooth. Previous post http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=15527

What about the blade relative length to the scabbard. You don't show it. Maybe that might help with constructive comments?

Hi Stu, good point, the blade fits well down to bottom. Blade is thick and in the
photo still has about an eighth inch to go when fully inside the sheath.

Does anyone know what they use to secure silver part together it looks like a whitish powder on other ones I have had that came apart readily. Also what safely releases the bond? It came in a leather Presentation case and is hall marked for 800 silver and and acid tests just under Sterling.

Are the parts cast??
 

Can we assume that this is an extension of the original sheaths length?
If so, does it follow that these parts are cast and appear to have their decorations
mainly from something like a lost wax cast? Or is that two big a stretch?

Am not sure why this is an extension? could be just part of the decoration maybe. Never the less, a very lovely piece! big congrats :-)

Blade length to Hilt ratio looks correct so we must assume that knfe itself is not altered. The scabbard therefore would appear to be made for the knife, but I suppose COULD have been made in two parts, though I have not seen one made this way before.

Thank you for your interests, insights and comments. Time to wrap this one up. I've included a comparision photo of the same blade mounted in different styles. One was made for the blade and the other was modified to accomodate the larger blade. I think I'm just a bit closer to the casting therory the silver and gold sheaths all appear to be one piece versus the the brass copper and steel sheaths are two pieces soldered together.
